Jordan's Strong SME manufacturers. A Real Alternative to China!

Are you a distributor or wholesaler?  Have a look at Jordan for a manufacturer of your products!

Over the last few months, I have had the delight to work with a Jordanian manufacturer. I found a country full of people that despite the pandemic look on the bright side. I have the pleasure to work with a company (Al Hadaf – www.rz.jo) that will not let a pandemic stop it from growing and works hard to show the world that it stands equal to any of its competitors around the world.  Jordan is a country that has some excellent manufacturers. As you do your due diligence on a potential partner, you will find if they are focused on topics such as business ethics, gender equality, anti-bribery that their products will be top class but as they are based in Jordan, they will be very competitive.

Situated in the Northern Arabian Desert, lies Jordan,  with Petra, the symbol of Jordan and from this powerful history, lies a country with businesses that are ready to take on some of the global companies in their sectors.  Jordanian businesses initially look to the Middle East for their trading partners but once established look beyond and are starting to make an impact in both Europe and the US.  Why? Because Jordan is a good alternative to countries such as China and Turkey. Jordan has its challenges but it is committed to improving its social issues and work with many of the global agencies on these issues.

Jordan has a highly educated workforce, its political stability, its integration into the world and regional markets, makes Jordan a good choice when looking for a manufacturer. Jordan has a very strong SME presence and in these SMEs are many top manufacturers. English is their second language, which makes communication quite easy. They are a very expressive population and hence their ability to communicate with their customers. Businesses that want to trade with Europe & the US are very conscious of promoting gender equality, good business ethics, health & safety and now even sustainability. When choosing a manufacturer to work with in Jordan (or anywhere), look for companies that embrace these criteria. These companies understand that to work with reputable European & US companies, they must employ the best business ethics.  In reality, companies that understand health and safety manufacture far superior products because they employ the best people, promote best practice procedures and in general are much easier to work with. Jordan still has low female labour participation, so gender equality is very important as you do your due diligence and despite the low labour participation of females, many companies adopt gender equality policies and are keen to show the world the make-up of their workforce.

Jordan strives to show the world their modern way of thinking and how they are now a real alternative to China & Turkey. Chinese policies allow companies to manufacture goods cheaply, however, China is a world away and the difficulty in engaging and building long-lasting relationships is arduous, you are just a number to them. Finding the right manufacturer of your products is not only about price and quality, it is about trust and trust with companies can only be built with two-way engagement.

Their work ethic is on par with any European country but they have a lower cost base, which allows for them to manufacture products at a lower cost but still maintain the same quality.  Their culture is to engage and help you find the right solution. Nothing is impossible for Jordanian businesses. The Jordanians have a “we can do” attitude.  Their drive to expand, especially into Europe, shows that they are looking at the future and hence at innovation, ensuring continuation.

Innovation is not only about the discovery of that amazing new idea, it is also about, the looking at present and seeing what changes you can make to what you are currently doing and continuous improvement falls into the category of innovation. Jordanian companies are very conscious of always looking at ways to improve so that they can be more competitive.  They want to understand more about a prospect decision not purchase so that the next time they can meet those prospects requirements. Competitive advantage for them is about the ability to produce products at a very competitive price, top quality and with ease of company engagement. Their attitude – we are here to make the sale as easy as possible – goes to the heart of why one should have a look at Jordanian companies.

Jordan is considerably nearer than China, further than Turkey but not a lot. As there is a Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Jordan, there are no tariffs, so shipping is relatively easy, and the Jordanians are used to exporting to Europe so that know exactly all the documentation required and the best and fastest ways to Europe. Shipping takes between 20-30 days from arrival at the port of departure, very slightly longer than Turkey but considerably shorter than from China.

Jordan is a rapidly developing country and is committed to enhancing values of high productivity in its industry and is focusing on creating a sustainable and a comprehensive development of its industrial sector. Companies concentrate on delivering top product at a competitive price at the same time making certain their business practice are above reproach. Jordan is a country that if you are looking for a manufacturer you should have a good look at. My experience working with Jordanians has broadened my perspective on manufacturing in the Middle East.
