Take a new look at Rimini for your MICE events!

Recently, I had the pleasure of going to Rimini and viewing it as a potential MICE location.  Truth be told, I had serious reservations about Rimini.  I knew Rimini as a beach destination and whilst I could see it being used by Italian companies as a location, I felt that for international events, Rimini did not have what was needed.  I was much surprised by the city, the amenities and the conference facilities. After my trip to Rimini, I will definitely offer it to some of my clients.  Why? Because it has a lot of the attractions and resources necessary for an event.

Rimini is 1 hour from Bologna.  We sometimes use larger cities such as London or Paris but to get to the centre of these cities can take well over an hour.  Bologna has good connections internationally (and Rimini has an airport itself).  Rimini is a city of approximately 150,000 inhabitants and lies on the Adriatic coast south of Venice. Rimini was one of Europe’s first bathing towns and holiday locations but over the last few years it has repositioned itself as a place where you can do business.  Some locations struggle to reposition themselves as a destination for MICE, especially as Rimini was perceived as a beach destination but Rimini has striven to change that perception and I think that they have succeeded. Rimini still may not be to everyone’s taste but it does allow MICE organisers the possibility to create an event that allows the attendees to focus on the event and move away from their day to day schedules.

A good selection of moderately priced hotels, most of which have some conferencing facilities but added to these hotels is the Palacongressi, a prestigious and contemporary convention centre with a capacity of up 4700 people in the main auditorium and with 39 rooms, including an amphitheatre for 1500. It is the largest conference centre in Italy. The Palacongressi is an excellent location for both large and smaller conferences. Great food goes without saying is everywhere in Rimini.

Nearby, you have San Marino, Ravenna and Santarcangelo di Romagna, places where the attendees can go and discover.  The region offers many activities such as cycling, cooking sailing etc. The incentive offering in Rimini is diverse and can be rewarding fro everyone.

For me, when I offer a location for a potential event, it needs to have excellent conference facilities, good value hotels but an event is not only about the conference, people come to experience something new and something different from their everyday commute to work.  Rimini is a city that surprises you by its culture, history, vitality and diversity. It has not only the beach areas but a thriving city centre with bars and great restaurants.  Birthplace of Fellini, Rimini is interesting in a way that slowly engulfs you.  Slowly, the city starts to open up to you and offer you its charms. Rimini and its people want you to experience a more real Italy, away from the noise of Venice and Rome. Rimini surprisingly stands out as a new destination for MICE.  Is Rimini ideal fro your event – Maybe maybe not but come and talk to us at OpenVentures and we can advise you what is best for your event.
